Perm engine builders get the state award for the creation of the PD-14 engine

The Governor of the Perm Krai Dmitriy Makhonin at the Government meeting presented state awards of the Russian Federation to the employees of JSC UEC-Perm Engines (part of the United Engine Corporation of Rostec) for their participation in the creation of the PD-14 aircraft engine for the new Russian MC-21-310 aircraft.

According to the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation, for his great personal contribution to the development and certification of the PD-14 aircraft engine, the Order of Friendship was awarded to the technical expert of JSC UEC-Perm Engines Ivan Bashkatov. The medals of the Order for Merit to the Fatherland of the II degree, were awarded to the Deputy Head of Production for New Products Nikolai Chikida, Deputy Chief Technologist Igor Nekrasov, and Project Manager of PD-14 Andrey Paitorov. In addition, Certificate of Appreciation and gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation were presented to Sergey Pomortsev a fitter-assembler of aircraft engines and Evgeniya Kanyukova, a drill operator of the mechanical assembly shop, respectively.

According to the technical expert, ex-chief engineer, veteran of Perm Engines Ivan Bashkatov, this award is the result of the work of the entire enterprise. Each employee, from the simple worker to the director of the plant, contributed to the development of the production of the PD-14 engine.

The assembly fitter of JSC UEC-PE Sergei Pomortsev has been working at the plant for over 30 years, the last seven of which have been at the assembly section of the new PD-14 engine. Prior to that, he assembled a serial PS-90A engine. “It was not easy to switch to another product, to study the design of a completely new engine. I am responsible for the rotor of the compressor turbines, I do the final assembly with the motor housing. In addition, I train young people, pass on knowledge and skills to them,” said Sergei Ivanovich.

The PD-14 assembly site was created in December 2014. The first prototype engine fully assembled in mass production conditions was sent for testing in July 2015.

The Governor of the Perm Krai Dmitriy Makhonin:

- The leadership of Russia appreciated the results of the work of our industrialists, whose participation and efforts contributed to a real breakthrough in the aircraft engine building – creation of the PD-14. This is a significant event, the first in the past several decades. I am sincerely grateful to you for your work, your loyalty to the course you serve. I wish you good health, success in everything and new victories!

For information:

The PD-14 is a new aircraft engine for an advanced commercial and transport aircraft, developed in wide cooperation of UEC enterprises using the latest technologies and materials. The key role in the creation of the PD-14 belongs to Perm enterprises: the design bureau of JSC UEC-Aviadvigatel and the production company JSC UEC-Perm Engines.

The fundamental difference between the PD-14 and the previous generation engines is a high bypass ratio and a fully automatic control system. All this ensures low fuel consumption.

Currently, the MC-21-310 aircraft with PD-14 engines is flight-tested.
