JSC "UEC-Perm Engines" is establishing a modern Center of excellence for blade and vane production

Since 2017, the enterprises of the United Engine Building Corporation have been implementing a comprehensive production modernization program "Transformation of the Industrial Model" (TRIM). Specialization Centers in various areas with modern technological equipment and highly qualified specialists are being established at the UEC sites, manufacturing products of the same type in the interests of all factories of the corporation. Due to such centers of competence, all UEC products will be manufactured at the lowest cost price and with a minimum manufacturing cycle.

Four TRIM projects are currently being implemented at JSC "UEC-Perm Engines": “Turbine Blades”, “GTU Shafts”, “Final Assembly Lines”, and “Center for Thermal Protective Coatings”. Two more are at the start-up phase – “Compressor and Turbine” and “Airframes and Combustion Chambers”.

- The first project in terms of importance is the “Turbine Blades” SC, - noted Dmitry Okoneshnikov, Director for Innovative Development at JSC "UEC-Perm Engines". - Within the framework of the TRIM program, it is planned to establish three specialization centers for the manufacture of turbine blades at UEC - “UEC- Ufa Engine Industrial Association”, “UEC-Saturn” and “UEC-PE”. In Ufa, the blades for military aviation will be made, in Rybinsk - civil and strategic aviation, marine engines and other products. We specialize in civil aviation and are already mastering all blades of high-pressure turbines for the new parts of PD-14, PD-8, and PD-35.

High-pressure turbine blades are the most complex parts of the engine design; it is the blades that determine the resource and parameters of the engine. The forecast of the production volumes of the enterprise for several years ahead shows a significant increase in the number of engines produced both for aviation and industrial application.

To organize the innovative production, it is planned to reconstruct the building in which the foundry is now located. Another building with an area of 17 thousand square meters will be attached to it. It will house an automated warehouse, equipment for machining of blades, including robotic polishing machines. The processes of heat treatment, aluminizing and brazing will be also moved there.

The process of developing design specifications and estimates for the reconstruction of the building and the construction of the extension building is currently underway, thereafter it will be necessary to obtain a positive opinion from the Main State Expert Review Board and select a general contractor. The start of construction is scheduled for the end of this year – the beginning of 2022.
