PD-14 is getting ready for the flight tests

At the end of September the specialists of UEC-Perm Engines, UEC-Aviadvigatel and Irkutsk Aviation Plant - an affiliate of Irkut Corporation, have held number of business meetings as to the arrangement of final assembly (podding) area for PD-14 power plants at the aircraft company. This constitutes another move forward to the organization of flight tests support and the start of PD-14 operation as part of new Russian jet liner MC-21.

 

In particular there were discussed issues on the Perm aircraft engines maintenance in flight tests and serial production conditions, procedure and terms for engine installation under wing and peculiarities of documents execution at the engine incoming inspection and a lot more.

At the podding area the power plant shall be finally assembled – installation of the nacelle and the thrust reverser which are supplied directly from manufacturers (JSC PZ Mashinostroitel and PJSC Voronezh Aircraft Production Association (VASO). After the incoming inspection the power plant shall be transferred to the final assembly shop where it shall be installed to operational pylon under the wing. Once completed the aircraft shall be moved to flight test unit, where operational team specialist shall initiate ground exercises and then test flights up to its sending for flight tests to Zhukobsky in Moscow Region. Through all the steps the engines shall be supported by JSC UEC-Perm Engines’ specialists.

- One of the most crucial milestones has begun in the PD-14 life: it is about to take wing of Russian jet liner. Flight tests of MC-21 with Perm PD-14 engines will start in 2020. Currently two PD-14 engines are handed over to Irkut Corporation for aircraft tests, but are held in safe custody in Perm. Two more engines will be assembled by the end of the year and transferred to aircraft company as well. The fifth engine will be manufactured as spare one – to avoid delays in the flight tests schedule.
