Tribute to the memory of engine builders killed at the war

Perm engine builders have a tradition kept up over 53 years: on the 9th of May they walk through the city to the Bed of honor to Bereft mother memorial to lay floral tribute to the graves of those who died of wounds in hospitals.

This year despite cold weather the company employees laid wreathes and flowers to the memorial of workers and employees of Ya.M. Sverdlov plant killed at the Great Patriotic War and then a several thousand strong column with collectives of other companies of Sverdlov district went to the Bed of honor. For the company employees, the 9th of May is not just a memorial day. This is another reason to tell children and grandchildren about the heroic acts of our nation both at the front lines and domestic fronts. A lot of youngsters marched with the demonstration: traditionally it is young fellows who carry the Victory Banner of the company.

Rashid Dzunza, Chairman of Perm Engines Veteran’s Council:

-This victory was hard-fought. From Stalin plant 3266 people went to the war, and about a thousand didn’t come back. The Victory was also achieved at home. Our workers in the most severe conditions without sleep and rest not just labored but increased product amounts and mastered new aircraft engines models. Engines which powered La-5 (Ëà-5), La-7 (Ëà-7) and others ensured our victory in the sky.

More and more veterans pass away. In our Veterans’ Council there are only 37 participants of the war and about 800 homefront workers. And we are aiming to make everything so they could feel our support and care.

Sergei Popov, Managing Director of JSC UEC-Perm Engines, Deputy of Legislative Assembly in Perm Krai:

- Distinguished veterans, engine builders, Perm citizens! Four years of the war and 73 years of memory – memory of those four years of battles and labor exploits. We are here to remember, to tell the other generations about that terrible time. May those who did not live to see today forever be remembered. And may all our veterans have sound health.
