704 names of engine builders are immortalized on a renewed Memorial

Solemn opening of the Memorial to engine builders killed at the time of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) took place in Perm on the 9th of May.

The Memorial was established in 1967 in front of the Palace of Culture on Komsomolskiy prospect and initially contained 235 names. 704 more names on two new segments faced with granite slabs were added after the memorial renovation.

The area around the Memorial was landscaped as part of the reconstruction: new paving slabs and flowered bed appeared in front of the monument.

Among new names there is Nikolay N. Teterin. Viktor Teterin, his grandson, told that his family treasures grandfather’s letters from the front line. Before the war Nikolay worked as assembly-fitter in engine building plant No. 19. When the war had started Nikolay Teterin trained as a fighter pilot in Chkalov high flight school fought on piston-engine aircraft I-153/È-153 “Chayka”/ «×àéêà». In January, 1942, his aircraft was shot down near Volokolamsk and he directed the burning plane into the German land convoy. He was posthumously awarded with the order of the Great Patriotic War.

Sergey Popov, Managing Director of JSC UEC-Perm Engines, deputy of Legislative Assembly of Perm Krai:

-              More and more time separates us from those years, from the Great Victory which was achieved against all the odds by dozens of millions of people. It is important to remember and crucial not to forget. Opening of the renewed Memorial shows that we in Perm, Perm Krai and Perm Engines do remember. Today historical justice was restored – 704 names of plant workers who didn’t return from the war front lines have been immortalized. First of all it is essential for our children. We ought to tell them about those tough years, inhuman efforts and sufferings on the front lines and behind them to gain the Victory.
